The Health Service Executive (HSE) of Ireland is the public corporate body in charge of providing health and personal social services in Ireland. It provides services based on a service plan, which is agreed on an annual basis with the Department of Health on behalf of the Government.

The HSE provides services directly and also contracts a range of voluntary and private providers to provide services on its behalf. Services are delivered across acute hospital and community based services with health promotion and prevention being a key fundamental aspect of the HSE’s business.

The HSE provides integrated care services to older Irish people including frail adults based on a needs assessment across primary, secondary and social care and is leading Work Package 5 ‘Knowing Frailty at Population Level’.

NUIG is ranked in the top 250 universities in the world (QS world rankings & Times Higher Education for 2016) and is among the top 2 per cent of universities in the world.

The university was founded in 1845 and is a member of the Coimbra Group of universities. NUIG will provide the research expertise to support the Work Package 5.
